Postpartum recovery bath salts
The first few weeks after babies birth are well worth preparing for in advance. Nourishing recovery food and self-care goodies all ready to go is what you need. Here is a postpartum recovery bath salt recipe specifically for your precious recovery time.
Epsom salt baths are recommended for recovery as they are very good for reducing tenderness from birth, speeding up wound and haemorrhoid healing and keeping stitches or grazes clean. Salt baths also help with easing tired muscles from a rigorous labour or even lifting and breastfeeding your baby. The aromas will help with relaxation and you can even soak with you little one to help with cord healing. All of the ingredients should be available at your local health store or chemist.
Ingredients:
2 cups Epsom salts
1/4 cup rock salt
1/2 cup baking soda
6 tbsp witch hazel
2 tbsp olive oil
20 drops lavender essential oil
20 drops chamomile essential oil
1/2 cup Red Raspberry leaf
Other repairing ingredients which are worth sourcing are:
1/4 cup Comfrey Leaf
1/4 cup Shepherd’s Purse
1/4 cup Calendula Flowers
1/4 cup Plantain Leaf
1/4 cup Uva Ursi Leaf
1/4 cup Comfrey Leaf
1/4 cup Yarrow Flower
Method
Mix all your ingredients in a bowl and decant into a pretty jar. You can add a cup of recovery salts per bath and choose to remove the leaves or leave them in. If you want to strain them, let them sit in the water for 10-15 minutes, then run a sieve through the water to pick up the floating leaves. Store your bath salts for up to one year in a cool, dark place.
Happy healing and let us know what you think!
