Melanie Smith

Pilates Instructor

Melanie started her Pilates journey in 1999 while completing her BA Dance at the Victorian Collage of the Arts. During her training, she was fortunate enough to be surrounded by experienced Pilates teachers and physiotherapists who helped shape the teacher she is today.  With now over 10,000 hours of studio teaching behind her, Melanie enjoys helping people look after their bodies for the long term. 

After having her own babies, she became especially passionate about pre and postnatal care and the importance for mums to be fit and strong in preparation for possibly the most physically challenging stage in their lives, whilst respecting the limitations that come with pregnancy and beyond. 

In addition to her Pilates training Melanie runs a pre requisite Anatomy course for people wanting to become Pilates teachers, holds a Cert 4 in TAE10 and a Certificate 4 in Fitness Personal Training, she is a level 3 member of the Australian Pilates Method Association. 

After moving to the Mornington Peninsula in 2013 with her young family, she opened Sanctuary on Peninsula Pilates and Yoga.  Set in the beautiful Lotus building in Mount Eliza Village, Sanctuary comes from her vision to provide the best in Pilates and Yoga teaching in a holistic and nurturing environment.
